October is World Mental Health month and I’m talking with Sagit Schwartz on the power books have to shine a light on mental health.
She’s here to talk about her debut novel: Since She’s Been Gone.
Sagit Schwartz is a writer, producer, and licensed psychotherapist. Her work has been featured in Medium, Slate, The Atlantic, Reddit NoSleep, and Lifetime Television. She resides with her husband, daughter, and rescue dog in a Southern California beach town….and her novel is incredible for so many reasons.
It’s the first book I’ve read (if not ever!) with a main character grappling with an eating disorder in the midst of a gripping storyline that kept me turning the pages compulsively.
Here are the books mentioned in this episode. You’ll find links to my Amazon and Bookshop affiliate stores below. Thanks for your bookish support!
Some books have us compulsively turning the pages. Some books pull at the heartstrings. And others give us fascinating insight into a world unlike our own. This book does all of those things. Readers will become instantly and intimately connected to Beatrice, a therapist navigating unexpected life changes that awaken the eating disorder she thought she left behind years ago. Alternating between past and present readers come to understand how Beatrice’s eating disorder came to have a harrowing hold on her in the present as she navigates shocking new information about her mothers death. I was surprised at every turn and didn’t see the truth coming. This is a book for readers who love suspense, family drama and insight into a way of thinking other than their own. It’s also a must read for anyone wanting or needing insight into the complicated world of eating by disorders. It’s a must read.
Now, it’s your turn!
What cozy books do you recommend that shine a light on mental health?
Share all of your suggestions in the comments below so I can add them to my stack, too!

Really enjoyed the podcast. I love it when an author explores something that so many people shy away from!
