Moving into a new year seemed like the perfect time to read You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life by Jen Sincero. Fitting, right? I love a good self-help book and this one was one of the best. This no-nonsense, yet humorous, book was REAL. It didn’t sugarcoat and it wasn’t full of fluff. It was raw, honest and shockingly practical. My biggest take-away? We can literally have anything we want in life if we think we deserve it first. The rest is just icing on the cake. Icing that takes hard work to bring to life, but that comes effortlessly if our minds are willing to accept new possibilities. I absolutely loved this book.
This book offers a welcome shift of perspective on the very present, never-ending trail of housework that can consume us all. As someone who loves clean lines, simple prints and minimal clutter, I become very overwhelmed with things many others can overlook: the dishes in the sink, the dust on the piano, the scuff marks on the baseboards, the clothes on the chair and more. I tend to equate my worth with my ability to keep us with these tasks and it has never served me well. This book gets it. This book shifts the whole purpose of housework to serve US, not the other way around. There are no rules, no must-do tasks and no single way to create a feel-good routine for care tasks in the home.
I think we’re all on a lifelong mission to find our own happiness. Sometimes we take a direct route and sometimes….we do not. Cathy helps you find your way. It may seem like it’s solely focused on quitting your day job, but it’s not. It’s about leaning into what your heart is telling you to do and then running with it. There are big picture aha moments to really decide what you love, what you want and why. Then there are smaller actionable steps that help you move forward in a way that feels fantastic. I have so many colorful flags throughout this book with lessons I needed to learn and I bet you do, too. The energy in this book is palpable.
